Ubisoft Among Several Companies Interested in Acquiring Arkane Lyon Studios Before December Deadline
Arkane Lyon Studios, the developer behind Dishonored, Deathloop, and the upcoming Marvel’s Blade, could soon be under new ownership as several gaming companies reportedly express interest in acquiring the studio from Microsoft.
According to a recent report by Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier, Microsoft has received acquisition offers from multiple companies, including French gaming giant Ubisoft, as the future of Arkane Lyon remains uncertain.
Microsoft Gives Arkane Lyon Until December 13, 2026
Microsoft has extended the consultation period surrounding Arkane Lyon’s future until December 13, 2026, giving the company additional time to explore potential acquisition agreements and alternative arrangements.
The original deadline was set for November 13, but Microsoft granted an additional month to continue discussions with potential buyers.
If no suitable agreement is reached, the studio could face closure, potentially affecting approximately 217 employees. However, the December deadline does not automatically mean the studio will shut down.
Ubisoft and Other Companies Submit Acquisition Offers
According to Bloomberg, Ubisoft is among at least three gaming companies that have submitted offers to acquire Arkane Lyon Studios.
The identities of the other interested companies have not been publicly disclosed, and the financial details of their proposals remain unknown.
Microsoft is reportedly reviewing several possibilities, including selling the studio to its current management team, which could allow Arkane Lyon to continue operating independently.
Despite the growing interest, no acquisition agreement has been officially announced, and negotiations remain ongoing.
What Will Happen to Marvel’s Blade?
One of the biggest questions surrounding Arkane Lyon’s uncertain future is the fate of Marvel’s Blade, the upcoming action-adventure game based on Marvel’s iconic vampire hunter.
Originally announced during The Game Awards 2023, Marvel’s Blade is being developed by Arkane Lyon and is expected to feature the studio’s distinctive approach to immersive gameplay and storytelling.
The game remains in development, but Microsoft’s plans to sell the studio have raised concerns about its future.
It is currently unclear whether a potential acquisition would include the publishing and development rights to Marvel’s Blade or whether Microsoft would maintain involvement in the project.
No official cancellation has been announced, and the game’s release date remains unconfirmed.
Could Ubisoft Save Arkane Lyon?
Ubisoft’s reported interest could provide an opportunity for Arkane Lyon to continue developing games under new ownership.
Both companies have strong connections to the French gaming industry, while Arkane Lyon has established a reputation for creating immersive experiences through titles such as Dishonored and Deathloop.
However, any potential acquisition would depend on reaching an agreement with Microsoft regarding the studio’s ownership, employees, ongoing projects, and other contractual obligations.
The Future of Arkane Lyon Remains Uncertain
With the December 13 deadline approaching, the coming weeks could prove crucial for Arkane Lyon Studios and its employees.
Although several companies have reportedly submitted offers, Microsoft has yet to confirm a successful acquisition.
For now, fans of Arkane Lyon and Marvel’s Blade will have to follow further developments as negotiations continue.
The biggest question remains: Will Ubisoft or another publisher secure Arkane Lyon’s future before the December deadline, and what will that mean for Marvel’s Blade?
